Default Speedometer problems

I noticed that there are some posts about speedometer/odometer problems, but was hoping someone could offer some help. I haven't had my dad look at it yet, so I am hoping it is nothing major. I have a 2000 Honda Civic SI and my speedometer and odometer are not working- at all. The speedometer doesn't move, it is stuck at 0 and the odometer reading isn't moving either. My Vtec isn't kicking in either. Is thisnormal? Could it just be the speed sensor? Thanks for the help...

Most likely a bad Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS). Try pulling it out, cleaning it off really well, and hooking it back up to see if that fixes the issue. Sometimes thats all it takes, but most of the time it needs to be completely replaced.

Ibought a new speed sensor for the car and was wondering where it is located? I have been told that it is on the back on the tranny, but was told by someone else that everything changed after 1999 so it may be somewhere else now.Do you know if it is still located on the tranny? How hard is it to change out? I think I can do it by myself.. Thanks.

It appears to still be in the same place. Remove the bolt and pull the sensor out. The wire plug probably has a metal locking clip that needs to be released with a small flat screwdriver. Check that the plug is secure on your old sensor before you go replacing the sensor.

It's on top of the trans, it's not THAT hard to get to. It may have just been unplugged, or the wiring damaged. This is a view from the front (sort of). It's part 7/8

well when it comes to the speed sensor just replace the whole thing. i dont think you can buy replacement parts for it. just be carefull when putting the new sensor in! make sure it is fully seated into the tranny case before you try and tighten the bolt!
i didnt with my first sensor and it snaped the pot metal casing on the sensor making it trash.... just because my sensor wasnt fully seated and binded.
