Sqeaky Clutch
Hi all, I've been a lurker here for a long time but I didn't register 'till now (I wish I had registered long ago). I've got a 99 EX coupe 5sp, totally stock.
Anyway, I did a search for clutch problems which was helpful, but I didn't see anything that looked exactly like my (simple?) problem. I first noticed a little click sound when I depressed or released the clutch. Now it's more like a sqeak which sounds during the bottom 2" of clutch travel. The operation of the car and tranny is perfect, as far as I know. The first time I heard the click was about 3 months ago after some agressive acceleration and quick clutch operation, so I'm a little worried. Generally I'm very easy on my car.
I'd appreciate any thoughts or guesses as to what's wrong. Thanks.

Are you currently using the original clutch and clutch components?
That is, have you ever had the system maitenanced before?

Is the throwout bearing a pricey component to replace?
Since it's original, then I'll bet money on a worn throwout bearing.
It might be pricey, because, like fglaustin said, the removal of the transaxle is a lot of labor. You also might wind up buying some more parts (like a new clutch plate) just because since the tech will have gone to all of the trouble to get the tranny out, you might as well do as much work under there while you've got the chance. I mean, 4 months from now are you going to want to pay for the removal labor AGAIN just to replace a clutch? If you're going to take the transmission out, you might as well take advantage of that and replace everything that gets a lot of wear.
If you want to save some money, you could buy the parts yourself to avoid the above-retail parts price markup at a service center.

chk to see if it also makes the noise while casr is shut off,,,,,
if it does , the pivot ball on the tranny where the clutch fork pivots is dry, it need to be lubed..pull back on the rubber boot by the slave cylinder, get a can of wd-40 or spray grease . spray the area inside the tranny wherre the fork is at .. have someone depress the clutch pedal while you do it ...
if the noise is when engine is running and clutch is deprerssed ,, most likely ,, it is the clutch bearing

squeeky clutch is pretty common in civic fo some reason. i dont really kno the cause but i've heard of many cases of it and it happens on my car but have never had problems. mine has been squeeking as far back as i can remember and no problems what so ever.
