I own a 95 Honda Civic. When i drive and also when its in park as i rev up, at 1000-1500 RPM and also at 2000-2500 RPM i get what sounds like a screech like a squeal, when i went to look for it thnking it might be a belt i pinned it to be coming from underneath the car, from the exhaust (or more like from the middle), i recently got the exhaust replaced after it cracked and broke off, (form the catalytic conv. back to the muffler {not the converter}) so thats fairly new(about 4 months old) i do not know what the noise can be, it does it on occasion at 3000 RPM, and not at any other RPM only at those points, i also noticed that i have a slight rattle like a pebble in a can, i have had a couple heat shields removed so i dont think it is that, can the two be related or are they totally different, what can it be, any help would be great. I have a 5th gen civic too ('93 DX), andI have that same exact problem with the rattling. I have no idea what it is, or what your squealing noise might be. It'd be great to know what that rattling noise is, because it can get really annoying.

 

There's really nothing underneath the center of a Civic except the exhaust, so the noise would have to be from there. Rattling can usually be found by putting the car up on ramps or a lift and shaking the various parts underneath by hand. The squeak or squeal could be a leak, block the tailpipe with a rag with the engine idling and see if you hear anything whistle. Do not allow a lot of pressure to build up during this test.

 

the rattle is probably a heat shield....I had that problem too and just trashed the heatsheilds and the rattle went away. As far as the squeal/whistle its probably a slight crack or pinhole in your exhaust somewhere

 

Maybe they didnt weld it right
