Default SRS light, Door locks, repair costs???

so i went to look at a 96' EX yesterday, the car was really nice, it drove well and the paint was new, the only problem we found with it was that the SRS airbag light was on red, not only that but one of the owners friends locked the keys in the car and broke into it, so the drivers side door lock is messed up and doesnt lock, now i really want this car and my dad is telling me not to buy it unless the seller fixes the problems, what i want to know is how much do you think it would cost to take this into a honda dealer and have them fix the problems?, i know its hard to say because there could be some complex problems but im just looking for an estimate. any help is appreciated

thanks
Alex

hummm...the SRS light its hard to say, they can hook it up for free most of the time and tell you why the light is on and a price, so call the local dealership..find out if they do it for free (some shop around you should) and test drive it there. And for the lock..if its just the part that you stock your key in, its pretty easy just to buy a new one at a scrap yard and replace it..easy to take apart and very cheap, $5 if you do it, but you have to take the door panel off and take a look

ok, thanks for the help, i dont think its just the key lock because it has a keyless entry system and when you hit "unlock" the door wont unlock, and i dont think it locks neither.

SRS light is $60, for a fact, I just had mine reset. You can set that off easily, removing seats, hooking and unhooking harnesses.

no offense amigo but that is the WORST PIECE OF CRAP ADVICE that i have ever heard.........

just because that's what it was on your car ,, just to reset the lite ,, you cannot assume that that's all that is wrong with his car.......what if it is a bad srs control unit around 800 dollars ?

My advice tuner ......... if you like the car and want to buy it,,,,,, request that the owner fix the srs lite or at least have him take car to a shop and diagnose the probem ,it could be as cheap as corona kid says but what if it is not ?? , and by the way ,, he should not be able to sell the car in that condition,, it is a SAFETY issue ,,,,,,,,,if SRS lite is on,, the air bags will not deply should you get in an accident ..

ok thanks carone, and desert

yeah desert, that was exactly what my dad told me, that he cant sell it to anyone else with those problems, so it would be better on him if he fixes it, but were going to offer 500$ less if he leaves it as is.

thank you
