Default stuttering 97 cx

I have a 97 civic cx wih a 1.6. At 1600 rpm it starts to stutter and quits at 1700. I bought the car a month ago. It has a cool air intake. I changed the tps and it would'nt even run without stuttering so bad it would'nt fuel up. Put on the old tps and it ran again. anyone have an idea?

Is the CEL on, and if so which codes? Test TPS with a voltmeter. You have to calibrate it to 0.4 V with the throttle closed. Check that the harness plugs for the MAP and TPS aren't swapped, if that is possible on that model.
