Default Timing belt change

Any body have any tricks to changing the timing belt and water pump? Or is it pretty straight forward.

haynes manual. and to tdc the cam, there is a little hole in the cam cover, that, when lined up with the hole in the cam, you can drop a pin, such as a tight fitting allen wrench into, and it will hold it at tdc. then you just line up the crank pulley, and slip on the belt.

hmmmmn all the single cams i have worked on dont have this hole you speak of. i know this partially tru with the dohc but you have to remove the valve cover to access these "cam locking holes". as far as timing belt replacement make sure you have a good air compressor and a damn good impact gun to remove the crank pulley bolt with. everything from there is pretty straight foward.

actually, if you know where to look, I have yet to find one without them. of course i ussually work on the same 5-10 cars, so that might be part of it. but i know the 97 h22 has them, i know the b16a2 has them, the b18c has them, ls has them, and i know some single cams have them. ill see if i can get a pic.

I'm doing the same , is there any other way to undo the crank bolt my compressor / impact will not budge it, how about having some one hold the brakes while lossing the bolt with a long cheeter bar, would I break some thing?

thats the best way to do it, unless you have a flywheel holder, and have access to the flywheel. i usually use an impact, even though it is hard on the bolt, but i had to buy a big impact, like 565 ft-lb one, and i still had to hammer on it for a minute or two.
