Default timing belt replacement trouble

Hope some one can help. I replaced the timing belt on my '91 Civic 1.5. When I first started it ran ok but then it would ping when I was on the gas. So I ck'ed and reset the timing belt by one tooth (I think). This stopped the ping but now I have very low power under 3000 rpms. The dist timing was not changed when I did the belt. Did I over correct the change of position of the belt? It ran fine before I worked on it, the belt was loose and just needed to be replaced. Glad I did as the water pump was shot and needed to be done too.

I think you originally had the mechanical timing correct and you just needed to adjust the ignition timing with a timing gun.

Yes, always check the spark timing after replacing the belt.

Double check that the marks on the crank and cam now line up as close as possible the way you have the belt on now.

have a factory manual or haynes manual in handy. those manuals are useful as far as diagrams and how-to
