Question Timing belt tensioner?

See If some one can help me;1991 Civic 1.5 D15B1 I'm about to change the timing belt tomorow.I got the upper cover off and notice that the belt is running on the cover (need to get covers, it when tru). I belive the cause is the belt tensioner;but I'm not sure. Has anybody know what's the reason for this to happen? Thanks

I think a problem with the tensioner is a good guess. When you get the crank pulley bolt off and remove the lower cover, you'll likely get a better sense about what the problem is. In general, it is wise to replace both the tensioner and the water pump while replacing the timing belt.

it's standard procedure to replace the water pump along with the timing belt and tensioner. and usually thermostat.

Make sure the guide washers are properly in place on both sides of the crank sprocket. These are supposed to prevent the belt from moving to the side.

Ok; I just change the timing belt, tensioner and the water pump; notice that only have the inside timing belt plate guide, so I belive the guide alone with the tensioner was the problem. Now I'm just wating for the new guides and upper & lower cover to arrived to put it back together. Hope this will do. Thanks guys for your reply. Jorge
