Too good to true?
Hello Civic owners! I plan to walk among you soon, but I need help deciding whether or not to buy this civic.
Specs are as follows:
2004 Honda Civic LX
63,000 miles
2 owners
Excellent condition (to the eye)
Involved in accident about a year ago, front bumper and headlight apparently needed to be replaced. Looks new now.
Asking Price: $7,000
So far I ran a Carfax but it didn't say much. Just mentioned 2 owners, (even though the guy said only 1). Problem is, he is a Chinese guy (no pun intended) and speaks pretty bad English. He is jittery and looks either very nervous, or in a rush. When i asked him questions he replied lightning quick and never looked me in the eye. Psycho-analytically speaking these are signs of a lier. However, it could just be his personality. I told him i would want to take it to a mechanic tomorrow and he said that is fine.
I do not want to buy a salvaged junk for 7 grand, but neither do i want to pass this amazing condition car. If i take it to a mechanic, will he be able to figure out the cars defects, or is it possible he will miss a few key elements (such as a bad frame, engine, etc... stuff that costs loads to fix)? Also, should i take it to a private mechanic or an official Honda dealership? And what should i expect to pay for this "check up."
Thanks for the help in advance. This is my first car and i don't want it to be a lemon. That's why i am looking for a Civic, easy to mod, cheap to fix, and drives forever.
