Default Touch Up Paint: Will Any Do?

I need some touch up paint for minor dings. This is mainly to prevent corrosion. My Civic is black (just ordinary shiny black) 2003 LX. Can I just use the all purpose black (not the metalic black) touch up paint from the auto parts store? I figure that most parts/accessories need not be purchased from the Honda dealership, although I'm not much of a car guy.

You could do this although you might miss-match the factory color a bit.. On the other hand, the white placard on the driver door jamb has color code info specific to your car. Look for a number starting with NH--- and you should be able to get a perfect match from your Honda dealer. Expect to pay about $6-9 for a 2 fl. oz vial.

Yeah, i'd go get a bottle from a Honda dealership. It'll do alot better than autozone stuff.

Wow, have you guys ever peeled back the Honda parts sticker off that little bottle? It's the exact same paint that Autozone, Oriellys, and advanced auto parts sells (Dupli-Color)!!
Go into autozone and take your paint code with you, and look it up on the chart that they have (make sure you're looking under "Imports") and buy from them. It's cheaper and the EXACT SAME STUFF!
Unless you have to have the honda parts sticker on it.

^yeah, as long as it's the same code inside the door, it's the same paint.

Who did you buy the car from?
Be careful, if it was a private seller he might of painted it previously himself and will be different than the stock color.

try a little on a hidden spot where people wont see it, trunk, inner door, etc. To test it out first see if it's a perfect match. Shake well first, and wait till it fully dries.
