anyone know the symptoms of a bad tps sensor

 

If you have a scan tool, the voltage will jump around. If you are driving it, the car will like buck and go back and forth.

 

i'm having that and surging for a few minutes then it jumps to 2000rpm and after that evrything is cool until i shut it off and restart it

 

If you suspect a bad TPS, check the voltage of the TPS sensor. What you can do is find the signal and ground wire for the TPS and put the leads of a voltmeter on those 2 wires. If the voltage is changing then the TPS is prolly not good. If the TPS stays at a pretty low voltage then that is normal. You can do this with the engine off. You can also have some press the pedal in various positions and check to make sure the voltage is nto changing. If the problem isn't happening all the time, the TPS wouldn't be my first guess. The fact that the problem only happens when you start the car might be a big clue. It might have something to do with temp since the engine is cold the first couple min. It might be possible that the coolant temp is not giving the correct reading to the PCM and the A/F ratio is not correct b/c the PCM does not know the actual temp of the engine. Pretty easy to diagnose this, check the voltage at the coolant temp sensor right when you start the car. Again, the voltage should be pretty low since a high voltage means a high temp (i'm pretty sure).

 

Stalling, hesitation under load, shaking at idle were the symptoms I had on my Blazer...the rpm's sometimes went a tad wild on me...
