Default tranny prob. after replacing AC compressor? HELP!

alrighty, ive got a 2001 honda civic ex, manual trans, i recently replaced the ac compressor on it because my old one was corroded and seized up on me.
i replaced the belts and the receiver-Drier along with the compressor.
after i replaced everything and put everything back together and tried to start it, it wouldn't start for a few seconds.(it tried but wouldn't start). after about 4 sec. of cranking it finally kicks over.
however, when it first starts i hear a click from the glove box, the check trans light flashes and the RPM's dip down. this click, flash, dip happens several times before finally stopping.
BUT when it does finally stop the RPM gauge registers O, (stops working) even though the engine is running. the check tranny light STAYS on. and when i try to drive it down the street it will accelerate until i get to about 1/2 throttle on the gas pedal then it chokes back on the RPM's and wont accelerate any farther.

i have gone through many postings on the forum and gone through just about every page in my haynes car manual and have reached the point where i have no idea whats wrong and dont know what to do next.

PLEASE! if you have any knowledge about this issue help me out, im about to set my car on fire im so frustrated with it.

There's a "check transmission" light on a manual?

It sounds like a systematic lack of voltage, maybe the battery is not connected securely, or the ground wires to the engine and the frame. It's very unlikely to have anything to do with the A/C compressor but you said stuff was corroded maybe something else is bad.
