Tranny problem
95 Civic's clutch pedal went to the floor when I pressed it and would not come up and wouldn't engage the clutch.
What could cause this?
It has 200k miles and the pedal was slow to engage the last couple times I tried to shift.
Thanks!!

Is fluid low in the reservoir? Look for a fluid leak under the hood from the clutch master and slave cylinders. Also look above the clutch pedal as master cylinder leaks are common there. Replace any leaking components. In some cases, the master and slave cylinders can fail without leaking.
Some people will tell you to just bleed the hydraulic system, but unless you have done some recent work on the clutch system, this is not likely the fix.

Thanks. Good to see the tech gurus still here.

Brake fluid in the clutch system. Like the brakes, any substance other than brake fluid will absolutely ruin the entire system.
Manual transmission fluid or motor oil in the transmission case itself. Type 80W or 90W gear oil nowhere on a Civic!
