On a VTEC, the VTEC solenoid is located on the back of the head near the distributor. The solenoid or the seal where it meets the head can leak oil badly.

It was the distributor seal, got that fixed but now the car overheats even faster than before. Noticed my fan even stopped kicking in but it was last wk after tracing and fixing a shorted wire. It was suggested that it may be my fan sensor. The car overheats after just 2 or 3 minutes just after starting. I have left the car as I do not want to take a risk by driving it anymore til i know what's going on. I'm really at a loss here. It was also suggested to buy a new thermostat and sensor but I'm skeptical about that fixing the problem as the radiator seems to be blocked. I want to take it to a radiator shop to have it cored or whatever it is they do, but at the same time the fan doesn't kick in any more so I don't know what I should first do at this point

Make sure the system is full of coolant. Radiator should be full to the top with engine cold (never remove the cap unless the engine is COLD). Start the engine with the cap off. If you get a lot of bubbles and coolant blowing out, there is a leak in the engine such as a blown head gasket.

The next test is to remove the thermostat entirely and test drive. If it still overheats, that rules out anything to do with the thermostat.

Blocked radiator will do that, as if there is no flow through the radiator, hot water will not reach the fan switch . Remove the radiator from the car and try to flow water through it with a garden hose. It should pour through with practically no restriction. If it is blocked, I would replace it outright rather than try to unblock it.
