Default trans problem, request help!

Guys,

Searched forum , but no luck. 2001 civic ex will not run in Drive. Tried shifting lever around to R, D, N, etc, and sometimes, it does go into reverse, and actually starts reversing, other times, in R, nothing happens. Biggest problem of course, is it does not go into D! I mean, the shift lever goes into D notch,. but does NOT engage (go anywhere).

Anyone ever had this problem? I am SHOCKED that a honda would actually die this way, with only 75,000m on it, anyway, beside the point. It is actually at this time, in the parking lot where it died, planning to have it towed Monday to my general mechanic.

I am thinking I should prepare myself with the eventuality of gettinmg a reman trans, and have him just pop it in. Any idea where a good source is for a reman? Could this be simply a "cable" problem?

Tanks!

Joe

Update:

searched google, and found out 2001 civic is maybe the worst year for trans problems :

www.hondaproblems.com

loeads of complaints......pointing to the torque converter, typically. They sy to first call cust svc Honda at 800-999-1009, and ask for a "good will repair".

Anyone ever did this? How hard is it to install a torque converter? cost?

We've heard of a lot of 01 Civic AT problems. Definitely first take the car to Honda and inquire about a possible goodwill gesture. Go armed with any bulletins that report a similar problem.

Is the CEL ON?
