Default Trans problems

Hey everyone i am new to this and i am not sure if i am in the right place for this but here it goes. I drive a 99 civic 5 speed dx and recently it has started making a grinding nose when ever i am in 2nd and take the rpms between 3k and 4k i think. I have been looking at replacing the trans but this is where I run in to a problem. The honda workshop manual for 96-00 says i have a S40 trans in my car now, but the only trans i can find that they say fits my car is a D15B trans are these trans's the same and if not can i still use it with out having to modify anything or do anything major? thanks Tyler

D15B 5 Speed Transmission 96-00 - Transmission only - Honda & Acura this is the trans that i was looking at.

Any manual from 92-00 will fit, just with different gear ratio between dx & ex/si..

Or you can change out the bearing, most likely it the mainshaft bearing.

Check that it is full of fluid, though once it starts making noise it is probably too late. Like Droopy said, the manuals are very interchangeable.
