I have a '98 Civic which is having some transmission trouble. I took it to the dealer and they quoted $4000 for a replacement.

Is this right?

Would I be better off going to aamco or some local shop?

Anyone gotten a transmission replaced for less?

 

local shop will cost much less. If internals are ok expect ~$1600. for rebuild. Check the clutch at the same time.
