I have a 2005 HCH and I having trouble with gear shift mechanism. I cannot get into park at all and trouble with the other gears as well. I have to leave the car in Neutral and leave the keys in the car. I have much of the surrounding plastic cover removed but I cannot find anything apparently wrong in the shift mechanism.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this.

 

I had shift problems with a 2007 Manual transmission. It was caused by the collection of road debris at the point where the cables terminated in the top of the transmission. Dealer shop mechanic had to remove the air cleaner assembly to reach the area that required cleaning.
