Valve adjust on an automatic valve adjust engine
Hello,
Is it possible to do a manul valve adjustment on an engine equipped with an automatic valve adjuster, if the adjuster does not seem to be functioning properly (i.e. it sounds as though there is a lot of valve lash)?
-Can an engine which has valves out of adjustment be loud sometimes, but not others?
Thanks,
Andy

There's usually no place to adjust. The automatic valve lifters adjust themselves by filling with oil. So, insufficient oil pressure will prevent the valve lifters from working properly. If it is just one valve, the lifter is stuck and needs to be replaced.

Try some Wynn's Engine Tune-up (used to be called 'Lifter Medic'). Anytime I've had a lifter that was acting up I've thrown a can of this in and after a bit it's cleared things up.

P.S. I guess the US gets different versions of Wynn's products so I think your equivalent is 'TUNE-UP TREATMENT CONCENTRATE'
