Default Valve Clatter

My 96 Civic with 150k miles has developed some valve "clatter or chatter" with acceleration. I tried a higher octane fuel, but it doesn't seem to help much. I have read that valve clatter happens when the fuel mixture is too rich and causes detonation at the wrong time. What is the cause and how can I correct the problem?

Default RE: Valve Clatter

that is detonation you are talking about, not valve lash is the gap between the valve stem and the rocker, you can adjust this to be with in the spec, so that when the engine warms up the gap dissapears.
