Default vtec engine any good?

What kinds of experiance has anyone had with the vtec engine? HOw is it compared to the regular engine in terms of dependability and breaking down? IM looking at a used 04 civic that has this engine. and wondering if I should skip it and just go for the non vtec engine? Any thoughts? Just seems like more to go wrong....
thanks

it's just as reliable... and it's more powerful.
the only difference is that it has special lobes on the camshaft and special rocker arms that are used when you reach a certain rpm, and it has a vtec solenoid that controls this.

btw, there is more than one VTEC engine, it's not "the" vtec engine.

vtec engines are good, especially for that extra boost of performance

yeah, it's just a little extra wiring, solenoid, cam, and hydraulic system.

just as reliable if not more reliable, because it changes the amount of air and fuel coming into the combustion chamber at higher rpm's (or lower depending on vtec type). It's Japanese engineering you can trust it.

yes, just a little, it's not about how complicated the system is, it's how effect it is. just remember that.
