Default Vtec Issue

Hi all,
I hope that this is the the right place for this (sorry if not) - i have bought a 95 hatchback civic the split boot one.... on the log book it states it has a D16Z6 vtec engine in it, but i have checked the engine and it says D15Z3 the VTEC-E engine. when i asked the previous owner he said he go it with that engine in it....... But the problem i have is when i sink my foot and reach that magial RPM it begins to hit what i could descride as a limiter for the vtec to kick in i have to lift off the gas and then accelarate again, i have also tried progressively accelarated to the 5500 rpm and the vtec kicks in fine with a slight hessitation.

Can anyone help me in this situation........ i am not really clued up on the vtec system- i am getting a haynes manual to help me hopefully......(i know haynes is sad but i need to)

Hope u's can help- speak to u all soon

Paul

When whoever put that engine in it, they probably forgot to put in the correct ECU. I talked to a guy before who had blown his engine and swapped in a d15z1, but forgot to swap the ECU and the car did what you are talking about.

D16Z6 uses a P28 ECU. If that's what you have then you have the wrong ECU for the D15Z3.

I think you're supposed to have a P07 ECU. That's what the D15Z1 uses and they're both VTEC-E so it should be right. Are you out of the USA? because that's not a USDM engine, it's from a Vti.

If it's the wrong one and you need to replace it make sure you get an ECU that matches your transmission. The manual ECU is different from the automatic one.
