Default Vtec Leak :S

Hello everyone, I got my '93 Civic almost two weeks ago, and the dude that i bought it for told me that the vtec has a small leak, i talked to my cousins cause they know about my car a lot, and they told me to change the solenoid and it will stop leaking, anything you guys suggest besides that?

Can you see where the oil leaks out? It's usually just the rubber gasket (with integral filter) between the solenoid and the head. No need to replace the whole solenoid.

Yea it's very slim, barely noticeable. The thing is, should I be worried that it will get worse? Up to a point where it could damage the engine? My cousins say it's nothing to worry about cause it's nothing really, I just want to make sure with you guys in here.

Leaks seldom get better by themselves. If it were to completely blow out, you could run out of oil before you notice.

What would be the chances of a blowout?

A blow out on a gasket can happen anytime there is a weak spot and high pressure noone can really give you a timeline of how long it will last but the best thing to do is go to Honda and get a new solenoid gasket for the VTEC its only around 20 bucks make sure they give you the correct gasket for your engine because there are different VTEC Solenoids out there

Yea i fixed it, i changed the engine gasket, and the vtec solenoid, the solenoid was broken (the plastic ripped) so it's running great now, no leak on the engine, or the solenoid
