I am pretty confident that it is a drop in replacement. I have seen it done and know its not that tough. But it should just drop right in.

its the same shape but im not sure if its the same size..and even if it was, you would need to find out if all the plugs are the same, so they clip into eachother..heat controles, hazerd 4 ways,a/c ect, its very easy to take out tho..its just metal clips that hold the pastic piece to the dash, you need to pull very hard tho to take it out, then everything else it held to the plastic...well thats for the 00 civic anyways, hopefully you can find a 96-98 and a 99-00 civic at a scrap yard, and see if the swap will work before you buy the piece

I'm also very interested in doing this swap as well! Any one know how hard it is to do. First hand experience would be great. Thanks.
