First of all, I'm new here, so be gentle...

I was driving my car to work this morning (200 Civic EX Coupe) and all of a sudden hear a humming sound...as the rpm's get higher (it's an automatic), the hum gets louder. Not to offend, but it sounds like the loud custom exhausts that I'm not too fond of. It hasn't affected the way the car drives, it's just annoying. I'm going to take it to a mechanic to get it checked out, but just wanted to see if anyone has had a similar experience or has some male common sense that can help me out (no offense to the females, I'm referring to myself, I'm a lost cause).

How did you get on with your mechanic? Where does the noise come from? Does it depend on load as well as speed?

There are plenty good brains here so the more info the better the chance of a diagnosis/cure.
