I'm not sure. The electronics in my car are a little whacked out. I just lost all my cluster lights and climate control lights last night, so I've got a bit of work ahead of me. I have tried toggling that switch without any noticeable effect to anything. That PIAA relay only fits one way, but I did hear it making a clicking sort of noise when I fired up the flashers.

Check whether fuse 19 under the dash is blown. If not, the dimmer switch may be bad.

that switch looks about identical to the switches that come with the remote start systems at my work. are there 2 wires coming out that are black/white?

Does the alarm he installed have remote start?

That is the same exact switch that came with my Viper remote start and it is to be used as a switch that when it is turned off, the remote start will not work even when you press the correct sequence of buttons on the key fob, and when turned on it will allow remote start to work normally.

I'd be really surprised if he installed a remote start. The remote only has one button, and that just toggles between lock/unlock. As far as my lighting goes, I think it might just be the switch I use to turn them on. I got pulled over last night because my tail lights weren't on. However, they came on when I hit my brakes, flashers, and made my alarm flash all my lights (which also makes all my interior lights flash). So I'm not thinking it's a blown fuse, since the lights are all working, just not being activated by that rotary switch on my steering column.

Hazard and brake lights are different from the taillights -- check fuse 19 and the ground wire in the rear.
