Thumbs down what would make my brAKE light do this? (with pics!)

hey, i was wondering if someone could tell me what would make my brAKE light do this? it works fine when my lights are off (pic 1) but as soon as i turn my dash lights on the passenger side brAKE light goes away (pic 2). so, since it works without my dash lights on, it cant be the bulb right? seems like it would have to be a crossed wire or something, but i dont even know where to start to look.
so if anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

That is actually rather common. You have lost the ground on that bulb. Usually it is because the socket is rusty. The outer shell of the bulb needs to be connected to the car ground.

Note in the top picture where it "works", it is still a lot dimmer than the other brake lights. It's lighting up only the small filament used for the tail lights.

for cleaning it try using a wire brush, like the ones used for cleaning battery terminals
