Default wont start

I have a 93 civic w/ 2.2 liter

it wont start

it cranks good but wont start

where should I START LOOKING

I believe its getting fuel, because it fired very breifly when I first crancked it over

but now ...... nothing

athis is my sons car, and neither of us are familiar w/ foriegn cars

its been super reliable so we would like to get it running again

It seems like the prob might be in the ign. system, but not sure what part

is there a typical problem that we could try first

thanks in advance for all the help

A 2.2 liter is not a stock engine. Stock were 1.5 and 1.6 liter.

Anyway you should start by checking for spark like on any other car, pull one of the wires off, plug into a spare spark plug, and hold the plug on the engine.

When you click the key on but don't crank you should hear the fuel pump (inside the fuel tank under the back seat) run for 2 seconds.

is there a typical igtnition part that goes out that I can check first

like pick up coil or something similar? is the coil under the cap? I couldnt find one externaly

High voltage coil is under the cap and it is probably the weakest link in the ignition system. If you have a no-start, no spark also check that the timing belt is not stripped, if the distributor doesn't rotate there will of course be no sparks.

To check fuel I like to disconnect the return hose that goes from the regulator back to the tank. If fuel comes out there when the pump is on you know the pressure is sufficient to operate the regulator, thus unless the regulator is bad (rare) everything is OK.

I think pressure should be about 44 psi with the engine not running (from there it decreases proportional to manifold vacuum). To measure with a gauge you will need an adapter to couple the gauge to the fuel filter.
