Default Hello everyone! Looking forward to learning and sharing info with you all!

Hi, my name is Murphy. I have a '94 Civic that I bought from the original owner last spring ('18). It was owned by a friend's parents since new and garage kept almost all it's life. It has the small engine and still under 100K miles. I'm wanting to learn various things about it... repairs, stereo options, performance/fuel economy improvements, etc.

I don't want to ask the same questions a million others have already asked, so if someone can tell me the best way to locate answers to common questions, I'd appreciate it. I hope to keep this car for many many years as long as it doesn't require work that exceeds it's value.

Thanks,
Murphy

Welcome to our (mostly dead) forum. What you didn't tell us is which trim of Civic you have. That will tell us which engine, transmission and suspension options are most likely present on it. A few pics of the vehicle would be nice too, like engine bay, undercarriage condition, interior. Would be easy to spot if any modifications were done.

It was owned by older folks who never did anything besides take it to Honda for maintenance and repairs. I want to study these forums for general information, but am needing some immediate advice if possible. Can you tell me what website would have the most active forums regarding various Civic details?

Thanks

We probably have every question you may have already answered. Pretty much nothing has been left uncovered as far as older civics go here, since we were pretty active for like a decade. If you do need an actual active member base than Honda Tech, but we're usually much nicer than them when it comes to questions.

Haha. I don't mind dealing with ********... I'm used to it! Makes me truly happy to **** them off as much as humanly possible!

My big question right now is how to know the correct part number for a replacement ecm. I'm not getting anything for any reason from a dealership if there is any other option. I have been told I will have to have a new ecm "flashed" to my vin, but other than that, they will never have the chance to steal my money.

I've found used ecm's on ebay and amazon, but have no idea how to really know which ones will work in this car. It's got the 1.6 motor...

what stiffler was asking for is what model of civic is it dx, lx, ex, si. there are various combinations of engines available and slight chassis differences between the models that will help everyone answer your questions. also automatic or manual trans would also be helpful. a good source for stock parts would be www.rockauto.com. on that same note tho as i mentioned the version of civic is a need to know when ordering parts or directing you where to buy parts. it should be listed on the title of the car or just on the trunk badging if its still there. more information on the car might also help the more knowledge people narrow down what version you likely have aswell. power options, a/c blah blah stuff like that.

It's a '94 civic. There is ZERO reflashing the VIN or any of that crap that happens on this car. DO NOT pay a dealer to do this as it is a lie and a rip-off. Don't quote me on this, but if you have an EX you have a P28 ECU and if it's not an EX or SI you have a P06 ECU. There are differences between auto and manual, but you really have only those options.
