Help please!! 97 ex
Hello....I am New to the whole forum community she in hoping to get some help....I'm the right direction at least. I cannot afford to take my 97 civic ex into the shop. I had a leak in my radiator so my bf replaced it with a new one. He's did not bleed it When he was done (apparently he didn't know you were suppose to). About a week after this I took him home....round trip is 200 miles. after the first 100 miles I noticed my car overheating which it has NEVER done before. My radiator was completely empty!!! I filled it up once it cooled and was able to keep the temp down for the next 50 miles towards home. At that point I had to pull over every 15min add water. Weird though....the engine was completely cool after just 5-7min. I made it home....eventually. Did some Honda reading to educate myself a lil (I know nothing about cars at all but I'm learning..kinda). I know that he did not bleed the air out when he installed the new radiator....he also didn't change any hoses and reapplied the same with the old clamps as well. I know for sure thAt the bottom hose was not tightly clamped. I went ahead and purchased a thermostat, sensor and sensor switch as well as bottom radiator hose and clamps. I won't allow him to touch my car now so the thermostat, sensor and switch have Not been installed yet. Is there anything else I should replace!? Also been reading about warped heads....say it ain't so and how do I know???? Please help.... Desperate in Kansas
If the sensor is reading hot air, it may look like you are overheating. There are ways to tell if you have a warped head or a bad gasket.
low compression
while smoke out of the tail pipe
Coolant in oil
oil in coolant
exhaust in the coolant/coolant bubbling in the overflow reservoir
Overheating despite the entire system confirmed in good working order
leaking oil around the head
leaking coolant around the head
All of these are symptoms, but you may not experience all at the same time. Probably more that I haven't thought about. Start with replacing the parts you bought, along with new hoses and make sure it's bled properly. Not a difficult task to complete, just takes some time.
