Default hi there

Hi, i'm about to buy my first civic tomorrow and i have a couple of q's about it.

first of all about the car. Its a UK spec 1.6 SR SOHC vtec with a nice list of toys for me to play with.

ABS
power steering
elecric windows front and rear
electric sunroof
electric mirrors
remote central locking
15 inch alloys
and a nice 83k motor thats been owned by an old man so its never been thrashed

Now i'm wondering what type of oil i should be using as i think this is vital on a vtec motor? Im used to buying the £3.99 crap because my old micra would work happily on it since the engine was near indistructable. Also what type of tuning options do i have for this block? Anything thats bolt-on off the shelf? Exhuast manifolds, inlets, filters, large TBs etc...

thanks

Ian

I would go with synthetic oil. Check out the other sections and forums on your questions... they are ALL OVER the sight. I gaurentee you will find your answers and then some.

Welcome to the forum!

Synthetic Oil Pros:

•synthetics offer superior wear protection so that engines last longer

•synthetics improve fuel economy so that vehicles get better mileage out of every tank of gas

•Because of synthetics low pour points and cold weather pumpability, they make winter starts much easier

•By reducing friction Synthetics help engines run cooler

•By reducing deposits engines run cleaner and perform more efficiently

•Because of lower volatility Synthetics reduce oil consumption.

•Synthetics have been proven to provide more horsepower.

•Because Synthetics resist oxidation and breakdown, they reduce varnish and sludge which keeps valves and rings from sticking.

•Synthetics reduce waste. Not only is there less waste oil to deal with, there are also fewer empty containers for disposal.

not to mention the fact that the oil change intervals could be increased with synthetic. My oil is completely clean even after 5k miles (mobil 1) . the way i determine if i need a change is by looking at the color of the oil. If it's clear, then it's good, if it's dark, then i change it
