Default Main relay/starting problem.

Hey all... I fixed this problem but wanted to make ervyone aware of it.

1993 Honda Civic Dx auto...

sunday when i got off of work I tried to start the car and at first it started ran for a few seconds and died... would not restart. I waited and waited, oh did i mention i waited... finally got it started again, when to leave and it died again. called for a ride home, and then it decieds it's going to run...

Anyways, i read up on this on the net, and aparently the Main FI relay is a common failure in both accords and civics around that year. it usually only happens when it gets hot outside... to check for it when you have this problem, turn everything off in the car, and turn the key to run, listen... you should here the whirr of the fuel pump priming, then when it stops you should here a click in the dash... if you don't here those sounds it wont start, and your relay is bad...

On my car the main relay is located just below/behind the fuse panel, you have to get under that dash to see it. and if it leaves you stranded you should be able to get under there and hit it a few times and get it to stay on...

What was happening with mine is it would prime, then loose power to the pump, so it would run until it lost pressure and then die, and would not restart until i beat the heck out of the relay box...

New relay was $62 from Honda... it was $71 from advance.... surprisingly the dealer part was not only cheaper but instock as well!

Hope this helps someone... and maybe it will save some poor honda from being cussed out when it wont start...

Usually thats a text book case of a bad fuel pressure regulator, its kinda strange that the main relay caused that problem.
