Default New to Civic with a question

If you couldn't tell from the topic title, I have a bit of a question, or a few actaully. I recently purchased a used 1998 Civic DX with a 5-speed manual transmission, and, of course, since it is a DX there is no tachometer. I was wondering, could someone give me some information on maybe putting in a 1998 EX cluster? Is it even possible? Can it be done by a guy who doesn't know much at all about electronics? Also, if someone could recommend a Cold Air Intake, or the alternative (whatever it might be), that would be reliable and would increase MPG and maybe even a few HPs? And any installation tips would also be greatly appreciated.

install the tach in the pillar. it looks cooler.

AEM CAI is the way to go. it'll run you about 150-200 bucks

Wouldn't that be kind of ridiculous though, a 3" tach on a purely stock car? But thank you for the tip. Could you, or anyone else, provide me with a good brand that would come with comprehensible instructions? Also, is there an alternative to a CAI that would be better?

Autometer makes good tachs. And do a search in the Intake, Header, Exhaust there are LOADS of threads that will answers you CAI questions.

I'm really interested in switching the instrument cluster over from an EX or any other compatible models with a tach. So any information on that would be great.

Yes, you can switch it over. A good friend of mine put a Civic Si cluster in his 99 Civic DX. I'm not sure of the process or any extra parts you might need as I have never inquired about his, but I imiagine it wouldn't be that hard. Good Luck!

Welcome aboard! Search through the "Appearance" and "Electronics" forums, there should be a thread or two about swapping clusters. And Definitely go through the INtake, Header, Exhuast forum to find out about CAI's. The general consensus is that the AEM CAI is the most popular. I have one, and i love it
