RE: New to the civic world..
Ok now that I know I got the posts to work.. I can add more to this posted
Ok I'm new to the forum, but not to car forums.. I am in the process of trading my 3 year project for a 98 4-door civic with a frankinstain motor.. Few questions I have is,
Whats a frankinstain motor? is it a LS bottom end with a gsr head?? the owner told me he didn't know the details of the engine, but it was built to handle boost, but he mention that you can't put cheap gas in it.. so thats telling me that it has a high compression piston, hense if thats true it wouldn't be to great for boost..
So what should I be looking for? I was thinking about doing a compression check, what should that be.. a high 180?? or higher?

a frankenstein is either a b20 (from a CRV) with a VTEC head (also referred to as a CRVTEC), or the LS-VTEC motor you mentioned. the VTEC controller should be properly tuned for the smoothest VTEC engagement with no power dropoff or huge VTEC kick. If the VTEC controller was tuned by a tuner, then it should be safe. 3k sounds pretty early though for VTEC crossover. Does it have a chipped ECU in it?

He did mention something about some kind of chipped ecu, and he also was taking it to a guy thats well known in this area to get tuned.. He mention about snapping axles one time, he said he just fixed that.. hes also full of **** cause he said that the motor had about 400 hp.. I laughed..

is your VTEC crossover smooth? if the VTEC crossover is set too early you will actually lose a little power right after the crossover, and if it's too late you will lose power right before the crossover. read this thread for more info. check out the 9th and 11th posts on the thread, they will explain VTEC crossover points. http://www.team-integra.net/forum/di...TopicID=131578
