Im coming from owning a jeep to buying a civic very soon. Money is tight and i need the durability and good mileage of a 4 banger. As far as options go and things to watch out for what do you guys suggest? (i e 4 door, 2 door, manual, auto) problem areas to watch out for , etc... Thanks a lot guys.

 

almost to 170k on my civic and I have changed......

battery
ignitor
rear brakes tires
wires
fluids
headlight bulbs

and it does see redline once in a while, and is 5 speed.

up keep it and any model will be ok

 

if you can drive a stick i would purchase one because if you want even a little bit of go you need a manual. it makes a huge difference with it comes to imports.

no matter which Civic you go with you'll be less likely to flip it then your jeep. lol

I recommend a 5 speed 96 - 00 EX or Si

 

Welcome to the Honda Civic Forum! To answer your questions, I would agree with these guys. A 4 door manual would be your best bet though. Not only does it give you more go and is more fun to drive, but the gas mileage is slighty better when compared to an auto. The 2 door would have more go and better mileage (not much) simply because of it weight but throwing people in and out the back of a 2 door is a pain. I had a larger coupe before ( '95 Nissan 240sx SE) and it was still a nigthmare. You can also throw more junk in your car when you need to if you have a 4 door. As far as I know and heard, the 99-00 years of Civics are apparently the most cherished. Id look for an EX Civic at all possible. They have better amenities than the other Civics, with the same dependability. One more thing, if you have any knowledge on cars you will know that a manual doesnt break easy if you take care of it AND you normally can buy a whole new manual tranny for a cheaper cost for fixing an auto. Take it from me, Ive been down the broken auto tranny road recently!
