Default 3 PSI?!?!

Ok i was talking to one of my friends the other day that has a 99 DX coupe. He just ordered a Greddy turbo kit and he says hes looking to run at 3 psi. I told him he should run a little higher and he says no because he'll have to start changing "other parts." I'm thinking he'd be alright running around 5-7 psi. Right now he has an AEM CAI, Apexi N1 catback exhaust with an omni power cat delete pipe. Would he be alright running 5-7 psi? Also, will he need to buy the turbo version of the Apexi N1 or could he just keep the the N1 he has now with a downpipe?

your friend should be fine at 8psi. I think Pete on here was at 10 psi on his turbo d.

the exhaust will be fine, he just needs a DP to connect the turbo to it.

Pretty sure the greddy kit is gated at 8psi so he doesn't really have much choice. He could run a boost controller and turn it down, but it's pointless

Tell him to man up, get some REAL fuel management, injectors and a good tune to go along with his kit and he'll be good to go

^^^^
I think the greddy kit already comes with a downpipe.

Yeah, agree with forty, he should definetly change his fuel management unless he lives in CA, but then again he will still not pass the smog check since the emanage runs pig rich[&:]
I remember reading somewhere that the emanage does not come tune, it only comes with a basemap so you can go get it tune?

its not really about the psi but what horsepower he wants to reach...... and i dont know y he wants to run low boost, either way u have to chaNGE ur fuel management, injectors and get a tune so he might as well go his limit

Hes going to have to run what the internal wastegate is set at. There is no way to turn down theboost unless he wants to ghetto-rig hisinternal gate to open a little earlier somehow.Hes going to have to get bigger injectors andeverything anywayso he might as well just run the 6-8 psi the greddy gate is set at. E-manage is trash.

You can easily reduce turbo boost by putting an intake restrictor in front of the turbo.
