Blowoff valve?
Does anyone know what I can do to stop water from going into my intake from the cold air pipe? I heard that if I install a blowoff valve this would stop water from entering the motor!! Sombody please help?!?!??!?!

RE: Blowoff valve?
No its not calleda blow off valve, youre thinking of AEMS Air Bypass Valve. Its like a sponge you put on your intake pipe. This way, if your air filter gets submerged, the engine will pull air from under the hood, not down low. Cold air intakes are not worth the hassel. If it were me, Id just take the cold air intake off of the car and cut 6-7 inches off of it, and make it into a regular intake. The power loss is so minimal you wont even notice, but the sound will be much throatier, and no water can get in there.

and alot of cold air intakes are two pipes, so just dont put the 2nd pipe on there and you have a SRI, then if you wanna switch it up ever just put the 2nd pipe on and you've got a CAI.
And its definitly the air bypass valve your thinking of, not the blow-off valve. Pete described what it does real good though.
Personally i like CAI, the only tiem you really get hydro lock is if the filter is totally submerged, but hopefully youre not driving through lakes anyway.

My friend has a cai on his svt focus and he's ALWAYS worried about hydro lock. Every time it rains he thinks its puttering because of a wet filter. Just save yourself the hassle and bite the 1 hp loss and get sri.. Sounds better and is way easier to install cuz you don't have to put it down through the engine bay. It just sits on top.
And btw. Just for future reference... a blow off valve is for turbo applications. It relieves boost pressure in your charge piping when you stop accelerating so it doesn't build up and cause some major damage. (But the best part is the sound that a good BOV makes.. Vroooooom, tssssh. Its beautiful. Haha
But I would head to the intake header exhaust section so you can find some people who can explain everything you need to know about cai and sri... even tho pete explained exactly what you asked about already.
