Default Boost issue

Hey guys. I recently turboed my d16y8 a couple days ago. All is good except it will not boost over 3 psi. I have an internal wastegate set at around 8 psi. I checked all the couplings with soap and water for a leak but found nothing. So i pulled the vacuum line off the wastegate and it boosts passed 3psi. So i figured maybe the wastegate is busted. But than i thought maybe it is boosting to 8psi but my gauge isnt reading correctly. I do hear a little flutter from my blow off valve even before my gauge isnt in boost. Never over 10 Hg vacuum however. Is this normal? also when im at a standstill and i rev to, say 10 hg vacuum, the vacuum will hit 10 and than fall back to 22. is this normal? Only when im stopped. i figured maybe it was leaking. i dont want to think im running 8 psi but really im running 13 or something. its also tuned with a SAFC as well so there is no boost cut off or control. THNX

Sounds to me like you have a vacuum leak somewhere or possibly that you might have your BOV set too light. I'd check with the vacuum leak first then adjust your BOV.

Exactly what I was about to say before I read this post.

Ill check the bov but the vacuum is steady at 22 at idle. which is normal. and it holds when im driving. but when im stopped and i rev, it drops, or rises in the case of vacuum

Or you have a boost leak somewhere, when your just driving around and your on the petal (not like stomping on it, just to get up a hill) does it go to zero vacuum? It defiantly could be a possibility of couplers leaking. Do you have an elbow with some on it coming off the turbo? That's usually where mine leaked. But your bov shouldn't be going off if your not building boost, that's why I think it could be it's wrongly adjusted.

ok, i believe my bov is a little soft. because i can here a little whistling noise when im not on the gas. but i couldnt tell if it was the air running through the intercooler or the bov. however, i took the bov completely out of the equation and it still wasnt boosting enough. i triple checked for leaks and all is fine. plus like i said, if i disconnect my wastegate line i can boost as high as i want. so im goin with the wastegate. i believe its because i had to rearange the rod to fit in the car. i hear the rod length can change boost because of preloading or something like that. Either way ill get a turboxs boost controller. thanks for the help guys

if you messed with the wastegates rod there is a chance its opening too early now. I've had my BOV not allow me to build past a certain PSI before but i'm betting its your wastegate.

tap your boost gauge into your wastegate line and see what psi you get
maybe you have pressure drop 8psi @ wastegate but only 3 @the intake mani
