Default engine life and a future turbo

Well I got a 1993 Honda Civic EX, 5 Speed, with 160,000 miles on it. If I decided to add a turbo system to it. Will the engine able to hold the pressure. If it wont, what may I do so it can make power. What turbo system is recommendable? Im new to hondas. I use to drive (still own) 1998 Chsvy S-10 4 cyl. Thanks

hey welcome to the forum. Hondas are known for reliability, and they hold up under extreme conditions too. Your motor will love a turbo, however, it will cut its life a bit. Turbos work the engine harder, so there is more wear and tear. What you want to do is get a Haynes manual. Then conduct a Leakdown and Compression test. (Its really easy) and this will tell you exactly how strong each cylender is.

What are your goals for the car? How many lbs of boost you plan on running? You going to build the bottom end for high boost?

Well, I want to at least i want to aim at 230 Hp. I will add a turbo, Air intake. Cams, headers, No N.O.S., build the bottom end. The engine is a 1.6L Vtec D16 (I think). What do you recommend Pcupo12?

I have that same motor. 230whp is a hard number to hit for that motor. It will cost ya a lot too. Not to sound like a jerk, but you dont really seem to know much about the turbo system/honda motor......who will be performing all the labor?

I know i will gain at least 50 hp with the turbo. and free up some 5 to 7 hp with an exhaust and with the air intake at least another 10.
I'll hit somewhere around 200hp. Yeah I know the basics of a turbo and how it works. My cuzins knows how to install the turbos but he know somewhat about tuning. Yeah I agree it might not be possible to see 230hp. What Hp power you running and with what modifications?

I am running a Full Greddy Turbo kit. 7PSI. Full Catback exhaust. Its not tuned perfectly. Probaly seeing 50-60 horsepower.

Oh and dont expect to see 10 hp with an "intake" on a turbo.

well XMC Thats actually not true. Some turbo manifolds are much better flowing and will give power gains. For example. If you purchase an EVO VIII and took off the stock exhaust manifold and threw on a better flowing one, you would see some gains. I suppose if you could get a custom intake on a turbo to make it a COLD AIR intake it would give you some power, but it would have to be severly custom........but then again i took off my filter pipe the other day and just drove around the block with an open turbo.....and it had much more ***** to it.

That's a turbo manifold though, not a header. You can't put headers on a turbo car.
