Default Interesting question?

Hi,
My one buddy told me that I do not need to upgrade my engines internals when installing a turbo. It will probably work but I think the motor wont last.
I was wondering what boost level it will be safe to run?

can someone just clarify what major components needs to be upgraded, replaced or added and why? this is just for interest sake.

you can turbo anything as long as you dont go crazy on a stock motor..... Main thing to not over look is Fuel supply..

you will need..

turbo
turbo manifold
downpipe
intercooler
couplers
wastegate (depends on manifold)
b.o.v.
injectors or fmu
oil feed and return
oil
vacuum line
t-fittings
Boost gauge
gauge pod
misc bolts and nuts
oil pan gasket

I think he meant what parts needed to be upgraded on the "enjin."

Depends on how much Hp you looking ot make. If you want to stay under 7-8psi, then your stock internals will be fine. Past 8psi gets expensive.

hm... yea if seen it done runing 12psi on a stock motor is it a good idea? hell no whit stock internals u wanne run about 6-7 psi then start messing whit the internals pistons rods cam injectors u can start adding some more boost

ps; by the way u got to keep in mind honda motors are not realy ment to be turbod its allways a better idea to start of whit a car that comes from the factory whit a turbo like a wrx and so on and putting a good turbo upgrade on it and it will still run a hole lot of years longer then a honda motor whit a turbo kit on it your looking on driving that thing vor maby a nother 2-2 1/2 years and u can get a new motor

Not true. Honda motors LOVE boost. You can run 12 PSI on stock internals NO problem.......tuning is what makes the motor run "Safe". If you're running 12lbs of boost and making 215 whp and your A/F ratio is perfectly tuned throughout the RPM range, youll be fine. Just make sure your fuel system can keep up, and you've got some ARP headstuds keeping the "headlift" away. ARP studs, a Walbro 255lph and RC 550s will definetly get you to 200+ WHP no problem, and a good tuner will be able to keep it safe and reliable. The amount of boost doesnt mean that much, as different setups make more/less power @ the same PSI.

^^ +1

As long as your a/f ratio is good and your EGTs arent too bad then running boost isnt a problem on stock internals. 6-8 is average, 10-12 seems to be the max for most people.

EGT's = Exhaust Gas Temperatures.

And the amount of boost depends more on the number of cfm the turbo can move more than the boost pressure.

people need to get away from thinking about "how much boost I can run" and start thinking like "How much HP is safe on my stock block"

The boost levels will depend on the size of your turbo and other factors.

200-220whp is about the limit of a Z6 for reliablitly daily driving on pump gas.

Berz out.
