It all depends on how much boost you would like to run. Internal is better for low boost applications and external is better for high boost applications.
Not necessarily true. Internal and external will do relatively the same job in low boost, but in high boost more accurate boost control becomes critcal for the engine's survival, so an external or dual external wastegates are used.

Is it some macho thing to have a 7psi car but have a 35psi gauge?
Some applications will run into the 40+ psi range.

I understand that some people actually run that amount of boost. But if I get a boost gauge that goes to 25 or 30 psi your barely going to see the stupid thing move. It would just be a lot more fun to see the boost gauge fly up and down to near max on the gauge. But i guess i just have to suffer!

well its not the whole thing of howoften your goin to drive it but how the aluminum pistons and cylinder walls can tolerate above normal atmospheric pressures.
do you really think the engine gets above 1200° F?

I mean I know high compression exhausts can be hot, but I'd be surprised if the engine itself would reach levels of melting?

The motor should not be pushing 1200 degrees.
