Default Junk Yard Turbos

Is pulling off turbos from junk yards a smart idea? or is it better to just buy a new one? i had a buddy that pulled them off of saabs and volvos and used them to mod cars, but i couldnt tell if that was a smart idea for him to do or not. thanks.

Id say bad idea, they are in the junk yards for a reason. I would say give it a try, but the fact of what could happen to your car might be more $$ than just buying a new turbo. Unless your a turbo expert and know a lot about them, and know for a fact its for your car, I wouldnt do it. Save the money and buy a new one

it all depends on the history of the turbo/engine. if the engine was taken from a car totaled from the back, i'd snag that. just be careful. there's definitely potential to save money

Great idea! Saabs, volvos, mitsubishis etchave somegreat quality turbos on them. Alot of people have made some good money pulling junk yard turbos and selling them. If your going for a budget/low boost build its the best way to go. You can snag some pretty decent turbos at great prices. I'd alsolook for bov's injectors and any other stuff you could use or sell.

That was one of the worste thread jacks ever. Is it really that hard to start your own thread? Btw I think that thing is a little 13g off an automatic eclipse.

Junkyard turbos are great. Even if you get a turbo with a blow seal, fix it and youre set for cheap.

I shouldnt be supporting the continuation of the thread jacking but.. it might be fine just check it for shaft play and there isnt really much you can do to check other than put it on your car and see if it smokes or leaks oil.
