Live_4iT's Turbo project
There are a lot of people doing various turbo projects right now. I thought I minus well post my project I got going on. The kit I bought was used on hondaswap.com for $700 including shipping. I still will need some things....
What I have so far: [ol][*]Air Research t3 turbo 42/48 [*] All intercooler piping - and extra [*] t3 turbo manifold - looks like an ebay one, but the guy had it cut and rewelded[*] wastegate block off plate [*] Evo Front mount (fits great)[*] All Couplers[*] Steel Braided Oil Drain[*] Oil Feed (From bushup)[*] Oil Pan, taped and ready to go[*] nock off Rs bov.[*] o2 sensor (he left the o2 sensor in... hey free 02 sensor[8D])
[*]magnaflow hi-flow cat [/ol]
He had it on his car for 15,000 miles 97 civic coupe, so everything should fit perfect. But says the turbo will need to be rebuilt soon but still useable. little bit of white smoke now and then.
Things I need: [ol][*]Greddy emanage ultimate (not tottaly sure... expensive!!!)
[*]larger injectors/resistor box[*]maybe ARP headstuds[*]downpipe - gonna have my mechanic fab one for me, realy good guy wont overcharge me, then heatwrap it[*]gonna try to use filter from my AEM sri[/ol]I'm not in a rush to get this done as their is still a lot I need to research, as well as parts I'm still piecing together and trying to get deals for [8D]. This is a budget setup, and I'm not trying to get a lot of power so you can say that i'm looking for cheap, and reliable of the three[&:]. I'll be happy with 160whp, right now anything is better than what i'm pushing.
Update: Getting ready to buy injectors and resistor box. Instead of buying the popular resistor box from an older Honda. I'm going to buy four 10 watt 10 ohm inline resistors from Radio shack for $5. Also talked to a guy from the place i'm going to get tuned (I get 25% discount on dyno time cause of being a hondatech member), he quoted $850 for Greddy emanage ultimate and plug & play harness [:'(]..... So I'm going to fish around and try to get these myself. Got some pics up finally, not everything tho.

A lot of people say get boomslang or phearable conversion harness's. Does it really matter tho if it's name brand or not? Anyone using an ebay harness thats holding up fine currently?
You will definitely need to get larger injectors probably 370cc's will do for your power goals but dsm 450's are about as cheap as it gets. Ive been using a no name conversion harness for well over a year with no problems so I really dont think it makes much of a difference. I like the plan of shooting for cheap and reliable. People throw around 200+whp numbers alot but you would be suprised how fast 160-180whp feels in a little civic. On a stock motor I think its smart to be content with lower power levels until your much more experienced and are ready to build a block for bigger numbers.
Yeah I think I will get some bigger injectors. It's a bit of a battle cause I'm on a budget and trying to get this setup as reliable as possible. So I think i'll just get a knock off harness, we'll see. Do you remember who you got the harness from red2000si, was it on ebay?
Don't have pics yet been kind of buisy today, but will get them up soon.

I either got it off ebay or from some private seller but its definitely a no name harness. They sell DIY harnesses you can make yourself. Its really not a super complicated item so I highly doubt it makes a difference where you get one from. If your on a budget I would definitely get DSM 450's and a resistor box since they can be had for around $65-$70 shipped total and its really easy to find basemaps for setups with those injectors.
I'm thinking of buying a rebuild kit and rebuilding the turbo myself. For someone whos never done it befor should I just get someone else to do it? It doesn't seem that hard to do. Going by this DIY -> http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1397101

I dont know much about rebuilding turbos myself. Just so you know you dont have a "t3/t4" you have a straight t3 and a small one thats maybe capable of 250whp tops. I would just run it as is until it starts smoking or something and then send it to a professional that can upgrade housings and wheels or you could just get a new bigger unit eventually.

Thats what i'm looking for just shooting for around 170-180whp
. Oh, I know the turbo is from a Mitsubishi and isn't that big but thats fine for me. Thanks for the correction tho, damn't my noobnish is showing! lolOne thing tho is that in my state I can't convert back to obd1 and I was talking to a tuner around my area and says that a greddy emanage would be fine... I guess I don't really have a choice tho[&:]. He told me that he can tune them very reliably and not to worry.
