Default Looking for some info on boosting a D17a2

Hey people i still don't know much about honda's and i was asking myself what would be needed for boosting a D17a2. I already know some basics as intercoolers, the turbocharger, wastegate and all these things in general. I wanted to know if let's say i would want low boost like 5-6 psi...Would ineed to change the pistons, rods, valve springs, the camshaft and other stuff?

I know that the compression on a stock D17 VTEC is 9.9:1. So like i said before, would i needto lower the compression? Also larger injectors? Will the stock fuel pump do the job right also since it's low boost?

Also i would appreciate it if the "swap to K20" could stay out of the subject since i don't want to invest 10000$ (engine, transmission, ECU and harnesses, various parts and job) on my civic.

Thanks.

D17's are very iffy on boost. Atleast thats what everyone seems to say. Read THIS and THIS (Info on boost on a D17 and general info about turbo kits respectively)

Thanks Flip! I'll check it out. I know people always say to search and all but sometimes i think it's better to get on the subject and start anew since sometimes the subject get's lost in the conversation.
Though i agree that there shouldn't be unecessary threads
Thanks again! I'll post again a little bit later.

Still those don't answer the question...I mean sure it's good to know about the stand-alone and what's good and what's not but i really wanna know is: "If i want to turbo the civic at 5-6 psi, what would be needed and if i decide to keep stock internals, what are my options?"

With a mild boost setup on the d17 you can keep stock internals and head. You will need all the basics for a turbo. Wastegate, bov, turbo, mani, etc... For that kind of setup you will probably use a piggyback to tune with. AEM F/IC has gotten great reviews. A lot of people use Emangle, I say stay away. Some use PCS XFC, pretty good reviews. If you want to shell out the cash, you can use EMS or K pro, standalonesbest option but pricey. Stock fuel pump should be fine for 6-7 psi or more. (I'm guessing these psi's are on a t3 ish turbo) 6-7 psi on a t3/4 is way more air than 6-7 psi on say a t25, keep that in mind when choosing. Stock injectors are maxed at about 1.5 psi, or so I've heard. A lot of people use RSX 310 cc injectors, pretty much direct swap. SRT-4 injectors are also common, they come in a variety of sizes depending on the stage you get. But all of them are bigger than RSX. You need the injector clips for those, but they are also pretty much direct swap. You have to extend the fuel rail bolts for either one of them. Emangle has problems idling the SRT injectors. As far as internals go, people have made some crazy power on stock internals. Its all in the tune. You will probably want to replace the head studs, so you dont get head lift and blow head gaskets. Later down the road you might want to replace the rod bolts. Those are definitely weak points as you up the boost. That should give you some direction. I've left out stuff thats generalized with all turbo setups, I know it sucks to hear this, but just search for that stuff, there are tons of resources for general turbo info. Another thing to remember, this is for a mild setup. For more boost, you have to replace more and more stuff to keep your setup reliable. e.g. After somewhere around ten psi, the plastic intake mani starts to fail.

Yeah, 5-6 psi is safe with stock internals. Some ARP headstuds would be some cheap insurance...I've seen a lot of guys blow HG's on D17's.

Now that is what i call good stuff thanks Baron that is what i wanted to know. Seriously I've been around the net and the info i find is all general stuff about boosting the D17 for 200hp + and all i'd like is a little more power and well i'd love to hear a turbo sing under my hood also.

Though i guess ididn't seethe forum of the link you gave. I've searched alot on google and always found nothing much but hey thanks again! That put me on the right track.

I'll see to it and if it'll be done soon, i'll post some pics on the forum!
