My plans... need some thoughts
Hey all, I have a 1996 Hatch with an H22A swap in the works. I was thinking naturally aspirated but i have decided on a turbo.
A few questions... I want to run on 13-15 psi, safely, as in a daily driver. I know that I will be rebuilding the motor with lower compression pistons. Is this possible? And is it worth the money? I am open to suggestions.. but I do want to keep it fairly inexpensive. Will this produce around 350 HP? I have a buddy with a del sol that i want to keep up with..
lol. anyway, is this a good idea and if so what kit should i go with?
Thanks in advance!

PERSONNALLY i think it would be pointless to waste money on an h22 to turbo charge it when its in a hatch cause the car is already light enough and you already dont have any turning capabilities. Theres also no traction control when racing it has too much torque for the light car..........................
but if thats what your wanting I wouldnt really say that its going to be fairly inexpensive because you have to buy rods, rings, pistons (for daily driver) then you have to consider upgrading the fuel system and buying the turbo kit...which greddy would be a good kit to go with, but yes its very possible so the best of luck to you and this project

Yeah, it's doable, but good luck getting any traction with those numbers. An H22 on 15 pounds of boost will be making something like 400 horsies. Plan on an LSD, traction bars, good suspension, and very expensive tires that you are gonna destroy. Not to mention a clutch that won't even be fun, its gonna be sooooo heavy. And axles, that you will snap like toothpicks. And all of sudden, you will have a very poor driving record. And if you have never driven a car like this before, I can guarantee you will kill yourself and/or someone else.
Enjoy.
Enjoy.
Ok, so I left out some info that probably would have been nice to know for you all. lol.
1. I have bought the H22 Type S from a friend in town.. it comes with Skunk2 cams (ok for boost).
2. I have ordered a LSD & Tranny, and I'm going to have the place I work at rebuild the transmission to handle 450+ HP.
3. As for the axles, I've been talking to hasport and a few other places as to where to get some high horsepower axles, and I think I may have a lead on some.
4. There is a guy in town, that does this stuff for fun, and VERY cheap. He has hooked up my friend's del sol with a full turbo kit, rebuilt motor (includes polished crank, eagle rods & pistons) for $2,400.
As for driving a fast car, I have driven my uncle's XJ12, that is obviously alot more traction and weight than my car, but it is something. I have also driven a 10 second mustang (not street legal) around the block. That was enough to almost make me crap my pants, and that is a 289 with around 400 HP.
So i understand that this will produce some ridiculous numbers, but in the end I think it is worth it.
Anyway, I'm not 100% set on this turbo kit yet. I have been looking into some of the Jackson Racing supercharger kits, less heat, less wear and tear, but more money. [:'(] lol.
Thanks for the feedback guys!
