Default Nitrous

I have been doing some research on how to add power to my civic. With the goals I have and the money I am willing to spend, I have looked at Turbo set ups, doing a mini me swap, motor swap and am now looking at nitrous. I have decided that the mini me swap doesnt seem to be worth the work or at least to reach the HP range that I want. Turbos seem to be to much work and seems that I would have to do allot more than just buying a turbo set up. Like changing internals. Motor swaps are to costly and I have a good running D15B7 with low miles allready. So I am looking at Nitrous now. It seems to be the most basic and cost efective way to add power.

I am looking at getting around 200 HP in my civic. Or maybee a little less to be extra safe on the internals. Maybee 175 HP. And nitrous seems to be safe for that. But what I am wondering is, what brands I should look out for, what kits should I consider, who is good to buy from. Stuff like that. I do not think I am going with the ebay route with this. I dont think I can trust anyone on there, especially when they say the bottle comes empty and doesnt explain how to make it not empty. lol. I was looking at Andys Auto Sport and a company called Nitrous Express. I will leave a link of the kit I am thinking about. Allthought I would rather get a name brand like NOS. The motor I have is about 100HP stock, and I have 2.5" exhaust with a high flow cat. I will be adding a 3" intake soon so I figure I will be at about 115-120HP before Nitrous.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Even some stories, good or bad will help. Thanks.

just a couple of insights....nitrous express is a name brand, and from what i hear a trusted one[sm=nxsmile.gif]....and a intake alone will in no way shape or form add 15-20 horsepower...unless that intake is hooked up to a supercharger....

I am not sure where you are getting the 15-20 HP from. Are you saying that Nitrous and a intake would only be good for 15-20 HP? Sorry, Just am not reading you right.

I think he thought you said that you will add 15 hp from the intake mani alone, but you meant 15hp from the I/H/E all together right? Anyway thats not even the point here...

A good nitrous set-up will run close to 700 new. Than there's te fact that it's not street legal and you run out of it quite fast. The law for nitrous is that you can not have the bottle hooked up unless going to or from a track. Why not piece together a turbo set-up? I'm sure where you work cars with blown turbos come in. Pick one up, rebuild it, and have a close to new turbo for about $50-70 which is the price of the rebuild kit. Than go to ebay to pick up a turbo manifold, intercooler, bov. Source couplers and piping localy if you can get them cheaper than ebay. If you can weld you're pretty much set. You can chip you ECU if you know how to solder yourself, than take her to a tuner and have close to 200whp with a good tune. If you have a good relationship with a machine shop you can get your stock rods shot-peened and ground, which should give you some added security.

Thanks, actually I do not see allot of Turbo set ups around here. I have seen one on a 2000 SI but that was years ago. But, and I hate to ask this being that I am all certified and all lol, I am not sure what you guys are referring to when you say getting tuned. So I geuss my question is, what is a Tune after putting on a turbo set up?

the tune referes to chaning paramiters like fuel (how much will be delivered during boost etc) because when you start to get the boost, your engine needs more fuel, and the stock ECU doesnt know that. so they just go in and play with stuff like that to get the most power safley and what not...plus with a turbo you will need bigger injectors (depending on HP numbers size will vary) now your ECU wants to have your injectors spray for 2 miliseconds (this is PURLEY an example, i have no clue how long injector cycle is) now, you prolly have 270cc injectors or close? say your using DSM 450CC injectors. then in that same 2 seconds, your ECU just made you go WAY rich, and you could foul out a plug, not to mention the fact that your MPG will go WAY WAY down. now, say you get boost at 3k rpm... your ECU doesnt know that the engine needs more fuel, so it (at higher RPM) just keeps giving it its set fuel amount andwhen you hit boost, your going to go WAY lean and could cause some damage to your motor

I hope that gave you a better understanding what tuneing is and does.
