Nitrous

Thanks, actually I do not see allot of Turbo set ups around here. I have seen one on a 2000 SI but that was years ago. But, and I hate to ask this being that I am all certified and all lol, I am not sure what you guys are referring to when you say getting tuned. So I geuss my question is, what is a Tune after putting on a turbo set up?

A good nitrous set-up will run close to 700 new. Than there's te fact that it's not street legal and you run out of it quite fast. The law for nitrous is that you can not have the bottle hooked up unless going to or from a track. Why not piece together a turbo set-up? I'm sure where you work cars with blown turbos come in. Pick one up, rebuild it, and have a close to new turbo for about $50-70 which is the price of the rebuild kit. Than go to ebay to pick up a turbo manifold, intercooler, bov. Source couplers and piping localy if you can get them cheaper than ebay. If you can weld you're pretty much set. You can chip you ECU if you know how to solder yourself, than take her to a tuner and have close to 200whp with a good tune. If you have a good relationship with a machine shop you can get your stock rods shot-peened and ground, which should give you some added security.

the tune referes to chaning paramiters like fuel (how much will be delivered during boost etc) because when you start to get the boost, your engine needs more fuel, and the stock ECU doesnt know that. so they just go in and play with stuff like that to get the most power safley and what not...plus with a turbo you will need bigger injectors (depending on HP numbers size will vary) now your ECU wants to have your injectors spray for 2 miliseconds (this is PURLEY an example, i have no clue how long injector cycle is) now, you prolly have 270cc injectors or close? say your using DSM 450CC injectors. then in that same 2 seconds, your ECU just made you go WAY rich, and you could foul out a plug, not to mention the fact that your MPG will go WAY WAY down. now, say you get boost at 3k rpm... your ECU doesnt know that the engine needs more fuel, so it (at higher RPM) just keeps giving it its set fuel amount andwhen you hit boost, your going to go WAY lean and could cause some damage to your motor
I hope that gave you a better understanding what tuneing is and does.

BTW, what does everyone think of this turbo set up? I saw it on Ebay and it is pretty cheap, but that is what concerns me, the price. lol.

I was thinking of just peicing together a set up starting sith a Garrett t25 turbo but those are going for a little to much on ebay alone.

There are two types of tunes: a street tune and the dyno tune. Both involve a wideband A/F meter and changes to fuel and ignition maps based on the readout of the wideband and some other factors. A street tune is done in normal "street" driving, while the dyno tune is done mostly at WOT on the dyno.
