Nitrous Questions
O.k. theres not much on here about n2o and I have a couple of questions. I have a 2000 Civic Ex with a d16y8 I have i/h/e, skunk2 im, skunk2 68mm tb, walbro 255lph fuel pump, b&m fuel pressure regulator, and a spoons sport aluminum radiator done to the engine now. I was wondering what would be better to run for a nitrous kit. Should I get a dry kit or a wet kit and what is the differences between them. I did some research but still don't know what would be better for my car. I was thinking a dry kit would be fine for my car but would like to get the opnions of others. Also what kit should I get. I know they make a different couple of brands you can buy and I just want to make sure I get the right one for my car. Last question what shot ould I run with the mods I have I was thinking between a 50-55 shot but not to sure and really would like the opinions of others. Thanks
i would say run a 35-50 shot. it's safe and just get a tune so nothing goes wrong. i'd also get NX, because they are a reputable company and have good kits. get a window installed. no buttons or n e of that crap. window switch will allow it to turn on and off during certain rpms. this will also help incase you should miss a gear, you wont blow your engine. i am looking to get the NX kit as well very soon. within the next 2 months.
I'd recommend a wet kit. The wet kit puts fuel and nitrous in the shot. Keeps you from dangerous lean conditions. Also any problems with your car now will escalate when you add power, like oil leaks, slipping clutch, overheating, etc. so i'd fix anything that might be a problem.
Dry kits have problems with some cyls too lean and others too rich. Wet kits can cause fuel puddling which in turn causes an intake backfire (which is bad). Direct port ftw, when you are picking this stuff out don't look at the price tag. Find what is best then wait until you can afford it. I think NX is also a good company but I am still going with ZEX because of the videos I have watched on both of their web sites. NX had a guy representing them in their videos who acted like a 14 year old and was dancing at the end of the clip... ZEX had their rep talking English well and in a good manor. They just seem more professional and that means a lot to me when it comes to whose parts I put on my engine. Anyway, not trying to start a brand debate. Get a direct port kit with a purge get, rpm activated window switch, wide open throttle switch, and a nitrous gauge. If you have any money left then get a bottle heater also. Don't forget to get 2 step colder plugs, make sure your timing is set correctly, your ignition system is not getting weak (change wiresor other parts if theyhaven't been changed for a while)and change your fuel filter. 91+ ocatane only when using the laughing gas. btw why do you have a 68mm throttle body, that is WAY too big for a D16 with your mods.
The only reason I have a 68mm tb is because when I got my skunk2 im it came in a package deal and the price was half if I bought every thing individually. So I said what the heck I'm getting it. I kinda wish I didn't now due to the fact i'm having idle problems. And how does a direct port kit work and can I hook it up by myself?
Without the switches and buttons? They are a hell of a lot cheaper than swapping in a newengine because you missed a gear and blew your engine. I will never understand why some people skip a simple $100 even though it would make your setup a lot safer. A direct port is exactly what it sounds like, one nozzle for every intake runner. So for a 4 cylinder you have 4 nozzles. You take off your intake manifold and drill holes it in and put the nozzles in them. Some kits like the NX NXL has adapters that instead of drilling your I'm you can attachthe special nozzlesunder the injectors. Do some researching before you buy anything, make sure you are not buring any oil and do a compression test to make sure your engine is even in good enough shape to run nitrous. Go on Amazon or ebay and buy the book "How to install and use nitrous oxide" by Joe Pettitt. You will learn a lot.
actually, you can run a wet kit very safely... just don't let it activate below 3000 rpm (that's where intake backfiring takes place) and have it cut off at 68-6900 rpm so that if you accidentally hit the stock rev limiter (which cuts fuel) you won't detonate due to running lean.
