Turbo prep
I've been researching turbos for about half a year now and i've decided to do it the right way. Original plan was to get tuned to 190 whp or so on a t3/t4 on my d16 with stock internals (engine at a healthey 100k). I'd rather overbuild tho. I found what seems to be a good deal on 8.5/9:1 wiseco turbo pistons and eagle rods with arp's. What can I push safely on my block with this setup and the aforementioned turbo. Also which compresion should i choose as my daily driver? I won't have the turbo for another 6 months.

Pistons, rods, replaced OEM pumps and bearings, along with ARP head studs has been seen time and time again to hold 400whp + with good dyno tuning on D16s, obviously this is on 100 octane or better.
I'd be perfectly happy with 250 or less whp. I'm deffinitely going with arp's. I imagine it would be smart to buy new pumps even in that case, but would bearings be necesarry? Thanks for the info. I'll come up with more questions as i research.

Seriously man. I was checking for price comparisson on ebay and the vitara/eagle setup was 500 shipped without the ARP rod bolts and the wiseco/eagle setup was 750 shipped with ARP rod bolts. I was turned away from the vitaras tho cause the dome of the piston was really grainy, wasn't polished at all. Isn't that counterproductive?

Well I'll put it this way.
I'm going Vitara's and Eagles with ARP head bolts in a Z6. I'm also shooting for 300whp daily driven, and 400whp at the track with 110 octane.
Vitara's have larger ringlands, so they will hold more "screwups" than forged will. Forged also cost 4x as much, we're talking $500 for a set of pistons! 300 for rods, 100 for headbolts. More like $900 if you ask me. Here's something to consider.
Even with C16 octane, a fully built... and I mean FULLY BUILT D16 made 463whp on a GT3567R revving to 9K. 400 seems to be the Dseries wall, I've never see anyone break 475, at least without nitrous.
There are TWO, not one, but TWO simple Vitara and Eagle setups making 410+whp, running street tunes and T3T04e 57 trim turbos. Not only that, but they have been daily driven, one of which has been driven (AT 405whp!!!) for over a year now.
The Dseries cannot support enough timing to surpass the threshold of the pistons. It's the rods you have to worry about, and a good set of Eagles will do you wonders.
I was going to go CP pistons and Eagle rods with ACL bearings etc etc etc. Then I talked to both of the guys who had those 400whp builds, and I realized that if you keep it simple you can focus more on your turbo setup and tuning, which is where the power is really made.
Oh and uh... if you're getting forged pistons, eagle rods, and ARP head bolts for 750... beware please.

Wow another great post SovXietday. I didnt think a d16 would be capable of 400+ HP. Im shooting for 300 HP for my eg within the next year or so. Right now im in the process of getting the turbo setup, and and then ill save a little more and beef up my internals and try to get about 300 HP. Damn that much HP in a little civic just sounds fun. Think of how many unsuspecting V8's you can smoke. But its one step at a time.
