turbo too small?

if you are worried about spooling driving down the highway then go with a bigger turbo like a t3/t4 or soemthing

ok so I know apexi uses a t25 in their turbo kits for b16 motors and 2nd gen. eclipse guys use 14b's as upgrades to their t25's. I realize that apexi probably has different specs for their t25 than mitsubishi does but I would think its still smaller than a 14b. Just a thought. Im still looking for some more imput from people who have used these turbos and also if I really will be boosting on the highway since I will only be cruising at partial throttle and will that significantly effect my gas mileage?

if youre cruising lightly, not mashing on the throttle, its ok that youre in boost. it wont be much pressure without the throttle open, so it will significantly affect your gas mileage, but in a good way. the turbo makes power from wasted exhaust gas energy, so if you arent pushing any harder than you would be not boosted, you will get better mileage since some of the power you are using to cruise is coming from formerly wasted energy. If you are flooring it a lot, then you are using more power than you made NA, and you will therefore use more fuel, even though your power/fuel consumption ratio is better. turbos are amazingly efficient if planned right and driven right. and for a street car, I might consider a T25 for a b16, so a 14b should be fine. sure you wouldnt make as much top end power as a T3 or T3/T4 or whatnot, but youll have a lot of mid-range grunt.


also, just because one person made 16 psi with that turbo, doesnt mean you have to run it that high, he just stated that to show that it is capable of pushing a fairly large amount of air. so if it can make 16 psi at 2700, then making 6-8 psi almost to the top of your rev range should be very possible.

T25/14B = the JRSC of turbo's.

Sacicons you answered my questions with percision! I think Im going to end up going with the 14b. Im not looking for an all out racecar just something to have fun with around town. I'll let you guys know how it turns out. Thanx for the help guys!
